We Lower the Security and Pass the Savings on To You

CISO | Security Vendor Relationship Series

This week's episode of CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Podcast

We Lower the Security and Pass the Savings on to You

We Lower the Security and Pass the Savings on to You

was recorded in person in San Francisco. Joining me and co-host, Mike Johnson, was Seth Rosenblatt, editor-in-chief, The Parallax. All three of us discussed:

Home wi-fi routers have become less secure.

Research has shown that over the past ten years home wi-fi routers have become less secure. Market pressures have forced these devices to keep their costs down. This race to the bottom has greatly hampered everyone's security.

Moving to an era of data portability.

One of the core issues around data privacy is the user having ownership of the data a company collects. Users have rights over their medical information, could the same be said of all data corporations collect? That's the goal of new privacy regulations. How can this become standard and how can the customer transition themselves?

Whenever we increase privacy protections, we often decrease security protections.

Elizabeth Warren wants to break up Big Tech in what might improve our privacy. It's not clear, but if we break up security teams we'll weaken our security posture because now we'll have multiple teams at multiple companies repeating the same security efforts. And it's not like we've got an abundance of security talent we can spare. .
