We Promoted the Competition and Still Won

CISO | Security Vendor Relationship Series

This week's episode of CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Podcast

We Promoted the Competition and Still Won

We Promoted the Competition and Still Won

is hosted by me, David Spark, producer of CISO Series and Mike Johnson. Our guest is Zohar Rozenberg, former head of cyber department in the Israel Defense Force, and current CSO of Elron Electronic Industries. On this week's episode, we discussed:

Raise awareness of your space, even if it involves touting your competitors.

Cybersecurity marketing involves multiple steps. You must find a security professional who knows about your space, is concerned about it, and is actually looking for a solution. That's three levels of marketing. Guess what? Your competitors are also working on those first two levels as well. So why not ride that wave and promote their community efforts to educate? It'll help both of you and it'll spread the word about your category. When potential buyers hit the third stage, you and your competitors will both achieve success. That's assuming you're confident in the quality of your product.

No one needs another identical competitor in the marketplace.

Know your competition before you announce your great new startup idea. Or at least have an idea before touting you have a great thing. Just because you previously had a successful exit, doesn't mean a CISO is eager to talk with you.

Israeli entrepreneurs are spotted at a very early age.

Many members of Israel's 8200 go on to become successful entrepreneurs. That potential is seen at an early age, even during recruitment. While they are tested on their smarts, potential recruits must go through exercises to prove leadership potential and the ability to work with others. From there, the training is designed to build on their existing skills, their ability to do critical thinking, and to lead.
