I Have the Perfect Job for You (But Probably Not)
This week's episode of CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Podcast
I Have the Perfect Job for You (But Probably Not)
is hosted by me, David Spark, producer of CISO Series and Mike Johnson. Our guest is Brandon Greenwood, vp, security, Overstock. All three of us discussed:
You can't have the perfect job for all of us.
Hey recruiters, we understand that a series of keywords in our resume caused our name to get flagged. But before you send us that email to let us know about that "perfect job", take a moment to see if we're too senior for the position you're trying to fill.
Security professionals early in their careers are NOW getting attention.
Both Mike and Brandon admitted that infosec was a nascent industry when they started and there simply weren't that many recruiters out there vying for their attention. In fact, maybe none. Today though, security talent is in such high demand that everyone at all levels is getting approached.
The pandemic is revealing our "work from home" weak spots.
VPNs, cloud misconfigurations, and increased cloud surface are all problems that existed before, they're just been amplified with everyone working from home.
If you want some respect as a security professional, prove you're there to help.
Demonstrate your ability to support the business by proactively looking for issues and making suggestions on how to reduce risk. As you do that the business will come to you and give you the respect you crave.
