This week's podcast episode
How to Help Your Best Employees Leave
What you'll learn:
On this week's podcast, co-host Mike Johnson, CISO of Lyft, and Justin Berman, CISO of Zenefits discuss the following:
You don't need to alert CISOs to the most import security news of the week. If the news appeared in ever single security news media outlet, you can guarantee a CISO saw it. Instead of repeating what everyone else saw, ask yourself, "What can you contribute to the news or conversation?" CISOs are always open to new and intriguing insight.
Attacking the latest APT makes for great news, not necessarily great security. CISOs want to know how to do security basics better. They're not chasing every shiny new scary security threat. While CISOs are trying to perfect and streamline security basics, focusing on new APTs often feels like a low risk pointless effort. How can you make selling security basics sexy?
A great account team can wield a lot of power for a CISO. Sales professionals may be pleasantly surprised by CISOs' appreciation of them.
If you're going to pitch a CISO, let them know something about your company. This week's pitch comes from a CISO. It's not his pitch to us, but a pitch he received. It kind of misses the mark. It starts with a combination of immediate requests for time and barely an explanation of what the company does. Throw in a few typos and a tired joke and you've got the makings for a "not so good" pitch.
To retain or not retain your best talent. Our guest argues that the employees who leave his company are his best references. Should you even try to stop your best talent from leaving? Sure you don't want to coax them to go, but if they're going to go how do you make it fruitful for all parties?
